There is no getting away that for most of us blacks living in the developed nations we will have to work twice as hard to achieve our heart aspirations. For a number of us, it has been a rollercoaster journey of ups and downs, of short victories and dead-end roads. It gets to a stage when we feel ‘is there really any point trying so hard, I might as well settle for my current state’.
But you know your current state is one you won’t be happy in, nor satisfied. As I like to mention, depression, irritability, moodiness and even some illnesses can be linked to an unfulfilled life. Is that really the life you want? Is that the example you want to set for your children?
We have watched many a great films where people decided to die fighting than to give up – that’s the attitude we need to have. Just keep at it. It may mean having a ‘bread&butter job’ (a job that pays the bill) on the side as you work part-time on your dreams. Whatever you need to do ‘just do it’. Stop the quitting syndrome – why have a go at your friend or children for quitting, if you can’t even set an example.
Yes, our race may be seen as ‘ethnic minority’ that comes with its set of biases but still that is no reason to give up. Stand up, brush yourself down and pursue your destiny.
